Royal Preston Morris: Preston Guild Project 2012
Royal Preston in 2012 Guild Kit
The Preston Guild Celebrations take place every twenty years and have done since the formation of the Guild Merchant Court in 1562.
Next year the Guild will be, as tradition dictates, concentrating on the main celebrations following the 29th August for 10 days - the 10 days signifying the 10 years that Preston has been granted City Status.
In addition to this “Main Event”, the Guild will be promoting events throughout the year, with a “something for everyone” theme. The Civic and Ceremonial Events are a link with the rich and unique history of Preston but we will see cultural projects bringing the city’s diverse elements right up to date.
We have started planning our involvement with the Guild already and hope to contribute to the celebrations through performances for the Civic and Ceremonial Events as well as arranging our own programme. This would include bringing visiting teams to the city and allowing them to experience the Guild and also providing extra dance displays and spectacles.
Both teams, Royal Lancashire Morris Dancers and Preston Royal enjoyed a successful Guild of 1992. They were operating as separate groups at that time prior to the merger in 2000. Hopefully the performances and involvement can be repeated next year.

To ensure that the team has adequate resources to carry out Guild performances, we have proposed that we attempt to build up our membership for 2012. Initially we have approached former members who can take the opportunity to re-join and dance at the Guild and during Guild year. We would of course welcome anyone who would like to contribute and take advantage of this exciting and rewarding opportunity.
During the coming months we will be concentrating on Guild matters and practicing the dances that will be most suitable for the Preston Guild of 2012.
More information on the Guild is available at www.prestonguild2012.com .
